( Northern Golden Orb Weaver & Papilio macilentus)
Northern Golden Orb Weaver is widely distributed in Japan south of the Amami Islands, southern China, Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea. Even in Tokunoshima, it can be seen widely from villages to forest edges.
Males are about 1 cm long, but females are about 5 cm long, which is the largest nesting spider in Japan. The legs are long and the belly is long and slender.
The male is dark orange. Females have large mutations, but their chests are generally brown, their bellies have a dark background, and they often have yellow vertical stripes on their backs.
Occasionally, you can see individuals that are almost all black.
Papilio macilentus that is distributed in East Asia from Hokkaido to Kyushu.
It looks a little bigger than the swallowtail, and its front wings are elongated sideways, so its silhouette looks like a Chinese windmill.
The hind wings have a wavy outline and a crescent-shaped red crest to match the waves. It also features a long caudal process. The edges are slightly white and the front wings are lighter in black than the rear wings.
