名前に「ヤンマ」とつきますが，サナエトンボ科のトンボです。
腹部第８節がウチワ状に広がっていることが特徴で日本名の由来ともなっています。
国内では本州東北部から九州南部にかけて分布し、国外では朝鮮半島、中国、ロシア、台湾、ベトナムに分布しています。
おもに平地から丘陵地にかけての開放的な比較的深い大きな池で見ることが出来ます。
よく水面から突き出した木や竹の棒，ハスの葉っぱの上などに止まっているのを見ることができますが，これは単に休んでいるわけではなく，メスを待つ「なわばり」の行動です。
別のオスがやってくると追い払い，また元の場所に戻ってきます。
今回は、そんな縄張りを監視している姿を表現しました。

Uchiwa-yamma　(Sinictinogomphus clavatus)

Its Japanese name is Uchiwa-yamma, "yamma" means a kind of Cordulegastridae, however its Gomphidae.

That abdominal Section 8 has unique and characteristic parts of that, looks like Uchiwa (fan) and becomes the origin of the Japanese name.

Well of trees and bamboo, which protrudes from the surface of the water bar, but you can see that stopped on such as on a lotus leaf, it means that not simply resting, also it is a territorial behavior wait for the female.

If an another male is come in, kick him out. Then will come back to its original location and continue to monitoring.
